Traditions, Toasts & Travel: Peter’s Guide to Scotland
27/08/2025

With a deep connection to Scotland’s landscapes, traditions, and people, Peter highlights the beauty of the Highlands, the joy of sharing a dram, and the privilege of creating lasting memories for visitors.

Meet Peter, Edinburgh’s head chauffeur, whose passion for Scotland is rooted in a lifelong connection to its history, culture, and stunning landscapes. With family ties in the Highlands, Peter has an intimate knowledge of the country and a love for uncovering its hidden gems such as its scenic coastal routes, quaint villages and celebrated distilleries. With his expert local knowledge and welcoming approach, he turns every journey into a uniquely personal and unforgettable Scottish adventure. Discover more in Peter’s Scottish travel recommendations and local insights, where he shares his favourite destinations, insider tips, and personal experiences to help visitors explore Scotland like a local.

Passion for Scotland:

My passion for Scotland is driven by a strong identity despite my surname. My mother’s side of the family were Butlers, Robertsons and Oggs – a little more Scottish than Kent!

I love everything about our country, the scenery, the coastline, bagpipes, Burns, haggis, sport, history, inventions…and whisky!

Favourite Hidden Gem:

My favourite hidden gem in Scotland is the area north of Inverness – from the Black Isle north to Cromarty and on to Dornoch. Some great distilleries to explore at Glenmorangie, Glen Ord and Dalmore. Beautiful golf courses at Royal Dornoch, Cabot Highlands and Nairn. Castles old and new. I have a very strong connection with the area and love showcasing it to clients.

Most Memorable Client Experience:

My most memorable client moments – I have to admit to having so many, creating some very special moments. However, one has very significant poignance for me. To be given the privilege of supporting a disabled client from the US, travelling back to the UK for the first time since her disability was so special. Little’s provided her with the opportunity to do something that she wasn’t convinced she could do. She was able to visit family in England, return to her second home and her partner in Inveraray, Scotland. She appreciated our compassion, care and support so much she returned 9 months later. It was very sad to hear she passed away earlier this year before returning to the USA – however it was a pleasure and privilege to be part of her journey.

Top Recommendation for First-Time Visitors:

My top recommendation for first-time visitors would be to enjoy every moment of their time in Scotland. At times touring days are busy, crammed with travelling between locations. Spend time exploring some areas of Scotland instead of trying to see it all in one trip. We are always happy to support a second or third visit!

Favourite Scottish Tradition:

My favourite Scottish tradition – on more than one occasion, I have gifted clients a quaich. The symbol of love and friendship is one to share and gift clients so they can extend a welcome to their friends when they return home – and most clients seem to return home with whisky in the suitcase so nothing finer to share a toast to Scotland!
