This year, visit Scotland is launching an international campaign aimed at encouraging Bollywood movie fans to holiday in Scotland.
Over the last 10 years, 23 Bollywood films have included scenes filmed in iconic Scottish locations. The Bollywood filmmaking industry has an output of 1,000 film productions annually making 2015 the perfect time to invite avid fans to see our famous Scottish film locations. As an industry that is famous for creating extravagant settings and music and dance routines, Scotland provides the perfect backdrop with its stunning countryside, lochs and castles.
The first Bollywood blockbusters filmed in Scotland were Main Solah Baras Ki and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1998. With scenes including Edinburgh’s Royal Mile and Eilean Donan Castle, both films led to famous directors considering Scotland as a new filming location.
