We are delighted to announce that our Managing Director, Heather Matthews, has been chosen as a finalist in the first ever Family Business category of the IoD Scotland Awards. The award singles out those directors who have responded to the specific challenges faced by family-owned firms in Scotland.
The winners across nine categories, as well as five regional directors of the year, will be named at the ceremony taking place on 22nd March at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Glasgow.
David Watt, Executive Director of the Institute of Directors in Scotland, said “The Director of the Year Awards are an excellent opportunity to honour those at the top of Scotland’s businesses. These leaders have much to share, not only within the confines of their business or sector, but also to society as a whole. The lessons they have learned along the way can contribute to finding solutions to wider social issues.”
Heather became Managing Director of the business in 2005, after careful succession planning with her father, who started the company in 1966. Her strategic insight, global benchmarking and highly focused management skills have supported impressive growth and industry-leading innovation, allowing Heather to become a role model for women in her business and beyond. As a founding board member of the Scottish Family Business Association, Heather continues to share her experience from a female perspective, helping to mentor and guide other entrepreneurs.
We would like to congratulate the other finalists in the Family Business Director category; Sandra Gow of Gow’s Lybster, Hugh Raven of Ardtornish Estate Company and Mark Williams of NWH Group. We look forward to the evening and wish all other shortlisted businesses and individuals the very best of luck.
