Happy New Year from Little’s!
After a successful VisitScotland 2015 Year of Food and Drink, 2016 welcomes the Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design in Scotland supported by the Scottish Government, showcasing the country’s greatest achievements in the aforementioned fields. It is hoped this celebration of architectural accomplishment will attract further interest and investment in Scotland as a tourism and events destination, a sector which has enjoyed something of a renaissance since the much celebrated 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Many areas will be celebrated, including the cutting-edge technology sector, textiles and crafts, and of course the outstanding rich Scottish heritage which attracts visitors from across the globe and continues to influence Scotland. The 2016 Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design will also, importantly, connect and engage Scottish communities with the culture and history shaping the modern way of life through a series of events supported by the dedicated events fund. 2016 will bring the creation of the new V&A Dundee, the 150th birthday of The National Museum of Scotland and the opening of the new Queensferry Crossing – set to be the longest three-tower, cable-stayed bridge in the world.
Minister for Tourism Fergus Ewing commented: “From our first Year of Homecoming in 2009 to the 2015 Year of Food and Drink, the people of Scotland and our visitors have had the opportunity to enjoy our most valuable and celebrated assets. To build on this momentum, the 2016 Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design events fund will be used to deliver a series of events that take place across the country and throughout the year to celebrate all that is great about Scotland.”
A full list of funded events taking place throughout the year can be viewed here.
