Little’s discovers the Glasgow Film Festival 2014
The Glasgow Film Festival returned last week to celebrate its tenth year of entertaining movie lovers and visitors. Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel, boasting an all-star cast including Ralph Fiennes, Jude Law, Tilda Swinton, Jeff Goldblum and Bill Murray, kicked off the Festival last Thursday in its UK première after a successful debut at the Berlin Film Festival. The eagerly anticipated Under the Skin, a film about an alien preying on hitchhikers in Glasgow, starring Scarlet Johansson, will bring this year’s event to a close.
A packed programme of events in venues across the city has so far delivered a fantastic experience for all, and it’s not over yet. There are still plenty of shows to get along to between now and Sunday 2nd March. As Glasgow gets into the swing of one of the biggest years in its history, there is also a cultural nod towards the upcoming Commonwealth Games, with a diverse range of talent from Pakistan, Nigeria, Singapore, and not forgetting Scotland with Glasgow Film’s new and exciting commission, Cargo, Camera… Action!.
The Glasgow Film Festival has become a real cornerstone of the city’s cultural calendar, and with several ‘mini festivals’ under its umbrella covering short films, music and youth film, it really does offer something for everyone. Go along if you can – you won’t be disappointed.
