Little’s Cars at the Commonwealth Games
Scotland was proud to host the XX Commonwealth Games for the third time in history this year, held in Glasgow, Scotland’s largest city for the first time. In attendance were over 6,500 athletes who participated in 17 sports, over 11 days of back to back competition.
Scotland set a new gold medal record winning 13 gold medals within the first five days which had an even bigger impact due to this record being broken on home soil. With over 95% of the tickets being sold before the games started, businesses and city inhabitants knew that it was going to be a busy period, which it certainly was.
The first weekend saw almost 1.4 million extra journeys being made into the city. Spectators travelling to Commonwealth venues such as Celtic Park, Emirates Arena, Tollcross International Swimming Centre, SECC and the SSE Hydro meant that Little’s had to be ready to provide quick, luxury chauffeur driven cars to accommodate the increased demand. With games transportation preparations beginning in January 2014 Little’s experienced team of travel managers were able to dispatch cars with ease.
The people of Glasgow were praised for their friendly and welcoming nature by visitors from all over the world. The Commonwealth games are commonly known as the ‘friendly games’ and the open welcome of the ‘People Make Glasgow’ campaign was deemed a great success. At Little’s we pride ourselves on providing the highest level of training for our chauffeurs and we were delighted to receive exceptional feedback of our professional approach and in depth knowledge of the various venues from clients who used Little’s as their main mode of transport during the games.
The Commonwealth Games legacy is one to last, with ‘People Make Glasgow’ hosting many business continuity events throughout the games period. Little’s hope that our stunning burgundy fleet, excellent customer care team and highly experienced chauffeurs will have left our passengers with a lasting impression.
